National Insurance Academy, NIA, located at Pune was established in the year 1980 under the aegis of Ministry of Finance (government of India), LIC, GIC and the four public sector insurance companies. NIA is the jewel crafted by this one of a kind private public venture, and has been running executive development programs for the past 25 years.
NIA has choice collaborations with Indian insurance companies, The Actuarial society of India, The University of Pune, The federation of Afro-Asian insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR), Institute for global insurance education (IGIE) and regulatory bodies like IRDA and SEBI.
NIA ventured into its MBA program in 2004. Since its inception NIASoM offers a unique course structure and an environment conducive to participation, corporate interface, and gives the students a platform to display their talents and develop multi disciplinary skill sets. NIASoM aims at nurturing minds by combining strong technical competencies with ethical enterprise.
Achievements
· NIA gets the ‘Technical and Professional Skill Developer 2007-08’ award on 27th May 2008 jointly with Leeds University, as part of the UK-India Education & Research Initiative (UKIERI)
· NIA is now NAAC accredited 'Grade A' Institute with a CGPA of 3.4 on four point scale.
· The Insurance Institute of India (III) has awarded a special exemption from associateship examination for all the students of NIASoM on successful completion of their MBA program
· The academy has been recognized as an associate member of the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (F.A.I.R) and also for imparting training under the Technical Cooperation Scheme (TCS) of Colombo plan
· The academy has received accreditation of the Institute for Global Insurance Education (IGIE), making it only the 25th globally accredited academy to have affiliations with international bodies like CPCU (USA), CII (London) and the Canadian Institute of Insurance.
· NIASoM has signed an MOU with the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI, formerly the Actuarial Society of India, ASI) which facilitates the students to take up examinations on ‘Business Awareness Module’ and ‘Modeling Module’ at NIASoM
· NIASoM has played host to both the 3rd and the 2nd ‘ Indian International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IICAI) ’ on Dec ’07 & ’05 respectively, where over 400 delegates from 45 countries had participated
· The ‘Alma Mater Library’ of NIASoM has been developed in 2005 using ‘Greenstone Digital Library Software (GSDL)’ installed on Windows 2000 server.
· NIASoM has been granted license from Taurus Training Service Limited to use 'Reinsurance Training & Analysis' e-learning software.
